OpenFront Discord and Community

Official Discord, Reddit, YouTube, OpenFront Masters, IAmLewis, and GitHub contributors.

Last updated:

OpenFront’s social map is small enough to list and large enough to fake. This page names the real rooms. For a one-screen URL table use the Links Hub. For a definition of the game use What Is OpenFront. For the storefront without chat culture use Steam store links.

Discord

Official invite: https://discord.gg/openfront

Community / events invite also in circulation: https://discord.com/invite/jRpxXvG42t

Use the first link when you want developer announcements, public patch chatter, and the main player pool. Use the second when a tournament host or community group points you there. If an invite in a YouTube description disagrees with these two, treat it as unverified.

Discord is where Ranked 2v2 partners actually get found, where replay files get dumped after a suspicious MIRV, and where mappers argue about impassable terrain on United States. It is not a substitute for v33 patch notes. Pin the notes page; use Discord for the argument.

Reddit

r/Openfront is the public forum. Expect clips, “is this teaming?” threads, and Steam wishlist reminders as 17 September 2026 gets close. Reddit is slower than Discord and better for searchable rules questions. If a Reddit post invents gold numbers, check gold costs before you rebuild your muscle memory.

YouTube

Official-adjacent channel: YouTube @openfrontio. The Steam trailer embedded on Steam Early Access and the v33 look at v33 are the two videos this wiki commits to. Other creators (including IAmLewis and OpenFront Masters broadcasts) are useful for tournament VODs. Do not treat a random “secret 10M nuke” thumbnail as a fact source.

IAmLewis appears in official communication (store posts, community updates) as well as community video. OpenFront Masters (OFM) is the competitive organisation: refereed brackets, spectator formats, a large Discord of its own. OFM house rules can ban teaming in FFA events even when public FFA is messier. Play OFM as OFM; play public queue as public queue.

GitHub contributing

Code: github.com/openfrontio/OpenFrontIO

The project is AGPL-3.0. Maps, balance, and UI patches often come from named contributors in the v33 notes (dozens of people, not a silent studio). If you want to contribute:

  1. Read the repo CONTRIBUTING docs on GitHub, not a Discord rumor.
  2. Do not open a pull request that “buffs my main map” without a reproduction.
  3. Translations and map SVGs are real work; drive-by gold cheats are not.
  4. Bug reports that include a replay beat bug reports that say “nukes broken.”

This wiki is not the GitHub issue tracker. We will not paste your crash log into a page. File it on the repo or ask in Discord for the right channel.

How community relates to the Steam date

Steam Early Access starts 17 September 2026. Discord will get louder that week. That does not change browser play. If someone in chat says the web client is closing, compare against Steam Early Access and What Is OpenFront — the browser stays free. If someone pastes a “new official Discord” that is not the two invites above, it is not official.

Clans, tribe names, and verified usernames from v33 show up in these rooms. They are account cosmetics and tags, not a hidden faction with extra troops. Tournament prize talk belongs on OFM channels, not in a public FFA all-chat copy-paste.

Voice channels and screen-share nights are useful for Ranked 2v2 practice, but they are a terrible place to learn first-match habits. If you are still dying in the Bot phase, mute the pep talk and open Getting Started plus How to Play. Community slang for “frontline,” “backline,” and “send troops” is explained in Team Games with numbers attached, so you do not have to reverse-engineer a 200-person Discord at 2 a.m.

When you only needed a URL, go back to the Links Hub. When you needed the game’s definition, stay with What Is OpenFront. When you needed a cart, use Steam store links. This page is for the humans and the repo, not for City timing.
