Gold Cost Tables

Use this page as a price sheet. For when a purchase is correct, open buildings, nukes, and the building tier list. Keys that place these objects are on hotkeys. This sheet sits under the Tools Hub.

Gold in OpenFront funds structures and late units. Passive income scales with workers and tiles; conquest, donations, and trade add lumps. The numbers below are the live public-game steps. Infinite-gold private lobbies are not ranked here.

Structure costs

StructureCost stepsCapNotes
City125k, 250k, 500k, 1M1MOwn counter. +250k troop cap per level.
Port125k, 250k, 500k, 1M1MShares n with Factory.
Factory125k, 250k, 500k, 1M1MShares n with Port. Not a paying train stop.
Defense Post50k, 100k, 150k, 200k, 250k250k30 tiles. No stack. Destroyed on capture.
Missile Silo1M each1MNo free warhead.
SAM Launcher1.5M, then 3M3M~30s first build. Intercepts Atom, Hydro, v33 MIRV warheads.

City, Port, and Factory use min(1M, 2^n × 125k). The trap is the PortBuildableGroup: n counts existing Ports plus Factories. Examples:

  • First building in the pair (Port or Factory): 125,000.
  • Second in the pair, other type: 250,000, not another 125k.
  • Third: 500,000. Fourth and later: 1,000,000.

City ignores that pair. A coastal Port does not raise your next City price.

Defense Posts use min(250k, (count+1) × 50k). The first 50k post is the efficient one. A fifth post at 250k on a tile you will lose is wasted because capture destroys the post instead of transferring it.

Unit and nuke costs

ItemCostCap / scaling
Warship250k, 500k, then up to 1M250k × (count+1), cap 1M
Atom Bomb750kFlat
Hydrogen Bomb5MFlat
MIRV25M + 15M × nn = MIRVs already fired in the match

Warships need a Port in that body of water. v33 adds veterancy if they survive. They are not a substitute for the City you skipped to afford the second boat.

First-Atom 1.75M plan

The smallest nuclear package from zero dedicated gold:

  1. Missile Silo — 1,000,000
  2. Atom Bomb — 750,000
  3. Total — 1,750,000

Do not click the Silo at 1.1M gold unless a teammate is holding the 750k. A naked Silo is a billboard. Hydrogen adds 5,000,000 on top of a Silo you already own (6M if you still need the Silo). MIRV is an endgame bank: 25M for the first, then +15M each extra in that match.

Silos go on cooldown after a MIRV in v33. A second nuke needs another ready Silo or a later window. See nukes and v33.

SAM versus Hydrogen

PlanGoldWhat it buys
First SAM1.5MOne interceptor, ~30s to finish
Two SAMs1.5M + 3M = 4.5MTwo sites, still under one Hydro
Hydrogen Bomb5MOne large strike, plus Silo if missing
First Atom plan1.75MSilo + Atom

SAM wins the wallet fight against a single Hydro if both launchers finish before impact. SAM loses if you start after the warning. Hydro wins if the defender never paid the 1.5M. In teams, treat 5M as a shared bank, not one player’s toy.

v33 lets SAMs treat in-flight MIRV warheads as normal intercept targets. That does not make MIRV cheap to stop — it makes a 0-SAM late game suicidal against a 25M click.

Gold versus troop cap

Prices sit next to another resource: troops. Growth peaks near 42% of cap. Each City level is +250k cap. Spending your last 125k on a City while two borders are attacking is still often correct; spending it on a third Factory while you sit at 90% cap with no rail is not. Win remains ~80% non-fallout land, with Overtime after minute 30 in FFA lowering the bar. Doomsday Clock waves (not a circle) can force expansion even when you wanted to save for 5M.

Alliance duration is about five minutes; betrayal applies 30 seconds of half defense. Do not time a 1.75M Atom plan to land during your own betrayal window unless that is the point.

Worked spend orders (not gospel)

Inland FFA: City 125k → Defense Post 50k on the choke → second City 250k → Factory 125k if no Port yet (or 250k if you already bought a Port) → Silo only after 1.75M is real.

Water FFA: City 125k → Port 125k → Warship 250k if the sea is contested → City 250k → SAM 1.5M if an enemy Silo appears.

Teams: Split the shared Port/Factory counter across players. One partner should not eat both 125k and 250k in the pair while the other is broke. Assign who banks the 5M Hydro.

When the table is not enough, go back to buildings for placement and nukes for yield. Keep hotkeys beside this sheet so 1–0 matches the row you just paid for. Other lookup pages live on the Tools Hub.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common OpenFront questions.

What is the shared Port and Factory counter?

n counts existing Ports plus Factories. First of either type is 125k, then 250k, 500k, and 1M. City uses the same step sizes on a separate counter.

Why is the first Atom plan 1.75 million?

The Silo is 1M and does not include a bomb. The Atom Bomb is 750k. Together they are 1.75M. Building only the Silo advertises a nuke you cannot fire.

How much is a MIRV?

25 million plus 15 million times the number of MIRVs already fired in that match. v33 also puts the Silo on cooldown after launch, and SAMs can intercept the warheads.

Do Defense Posts get cheaper if I lose one?

Costs scale with how many you currently have, and a captured post is destroyed rather than stolen. Do not treat a 250k fifth post as an investment on a tile you expect to lose. Range is 30 tiles and they do not stack.

Can two SAMs beat a Hydrogen Bomb on price?

Two SAMs cost 4.5M versus 5M for Hydro. They only win if they finish before impact. Start SAM when you see the enemy Silo, not when you see the missile. More in nukes.

Where are the keys for these purchases?

Default 1–0 row on hotkeys. Strategy for the same clicks: buildings and the building tier list.
