OpenFront v34 Preview
Water Nuke fixes, lobby improvements, map preload, and Clan treasury — not yet released.
v34 is the next OpenFront release. This page is a player-facing preview based on the published v34 preview article from openfront.fyi. It is not the full changelog; the official release notes will come when the version goes live. Check openfront.fyi/changelog/v34/ for the latest preview status.
This page covers what is preparing to change and what the changes mean for your next match. The Updates Hub is the index for all released versions.
Water Nukes: Transport Routes Should Recover
Water Nukes change coastline by turning land into water. In builds before v34, transport ships trust their original minimap path and take misleading detours when the route changes after a Water Nuke strike.
v34 prepares transport ships to re-route through the new coastline automatically instead of relying on stale minimap data. This should remove the confusing detours that made a valid route look blocked or much longer than it actually is.
What this means in practice: If you rely on Trade Ships for income, a Water Nuke that reshapes your bay will no longer strand your transports on land tiles that no longer exist. Check the actual route before committing a transport to a long crossing until v34 is confirmed live.
Read the full Water Nukes guide for the mechanics of how coastal nukes work in the current live build.
Detailed Lobby View: Compare Before You Join
The upcoming lobby view is designed to expose the public queue in a more useful format. Players should be able to compare mode, team setup, and player count before opening a room.
This makes the join decision faster because you can filter mentally before you invest time in the lobby screen. It does not turn every room into a featured event.
What this means in practice: Read the room settings before committing to a match, even after v34 ships. The new view gives you more data sooner, but host settings and player count still decide whether a lobby suits your playstyle.
Lobby Map Preload: Move the Wait Before the Spawn Window
The next lobby build is preparing to load the selected map before the match starts. The intended result is less loading time after the start signal and a lower risk of missing the spawn window on large maps.
Device, network, and map size still affect loading time. The preview promises no fixed number of seconds.
What this means in practice: Wait for the live spawn overlay before choosing territory. Do not assume a lobby thumbnail means the match map is ready. The preload reduces a class of late-spawn problems; it does not guarantee instant readiness.
Clan Treasury: Deposits Are Permanent
Clan members are preparing to deposit normal or premium currency into a shared treasury. The key rule from the preview is the irreversible part: a deposit is permanent.
Premium currency deserves extra caution because it is a non-refundable purchase. Normal in-match currency deposited into the treasury is also locked once sent.
What this means in practice: Before depositing premium currency, confirm the amount and the intended use. Once the deposit is made, it cannot be recalled. Use the economy reference to keep treasury spending separate from ordinary in-match production choices.
How to Read This Preview
Prepare for the player-facing consequences, not for an exact implementation promise. When v34 is officially released, the openfront.fyi/changelog/v34/ article will update its status to Released after the final facts are checked.
Until then, play v33 rules confidently. The current live build is v0.33.14, which restored modal scrolling, set public FFA Overtime to default on, fixed disconnected train stations, and resolved replay desync. Those are the rules your next match uses.
What v34 Does Not Change
Core combat math is not rewritten in v34. City still adds 250k cap per level. Port and Factory still share the PortBuildableGroup cost counter. Win is still ~80% non-fallout land. Attack slider, troop growth at 42% of cap, and terrain costs from the How to Play guide remain current.
What This Page Will Do When v34 Releases
When v34 officially ships, this preview page will be updated to full release notes. The Updates Hub will carry a link to this page under the Released section. Until then, this page stays as a preparation guide, not a guarantee of final implementation details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common OpenFront questions.
When will v34 be released?
v34 is not yet released. The preview article from openfront.fyi/changelog/v34/ tracks its status. Check there for the latest before assuming the features described here are live.
Will v34 change how Water Nukes work?
v34 prepares transport ships to re-route through new coastlines automatically after a Water Nuke reshapes the map. The nuclear mechanics themselves do not change; only the routing behavior updates.
Does the new lobby view mean featured events are everywhere?
No. The Detailed Lobby View gives more data before you join. It does not change which lobbies are featured or admin-managed. Read room settings before committing.
Is Clan treasury currency refundable?
No. The preview explicitly states deposits are permanent. Premium currency used in Clan treasury deposits cannot be recovered.
What version should I study for my next match?
Study v0.33.14 rules. That is the current live build. See v33 for the major system breakdown including Doomsday Clock, Ranked 2v2, and the Overtime default for public FFA.
